Wild Onions

Wild onions and eggs were a sign that spring had come to my little part of "Indian Country". To me it was just what some people did. I was never a big fan of the dish, but in a small quantity the geographic dish was differently delicious.
My grandmother and mom would get this gleam in thier eyes.
"Wild onions are ready!" is what they would say. I knew what that meant. Despite what I felt like eating, it was the height of rudeness to say anything but, "these wild onions and eggs are so good mom!" Then she would smile across the table so proudly and offer me some more. She never got so excited over ice cream.
I haven't had any wild onions and eggs this year, and it's a little out of season now, but it is one Mother's Day gift I consider cooking up.
