I wanted to share my week of doing both! This morning I read what Wayne Coyne of Flaming Lips in his recent interview with Rolling Stone had to say for himself. (A page out of Cutcha Risling Baldy's book I want to break it down like she did-my responses will be in bold and underlined)
I am only using some segments, but this is the link to the whole interview.

Wayne Coyne Fires Back at 'Pathological Liar' Kliph Scurlock
The Flaming Lips received widespread coverage last week when former drummer Kliph Scurlock wrote a scathing letter to Pitchfork accusing frontman Wayne Coyne of "endless verbal (with threats of physical) abuse," among other charges. Scurlock wrote he was fired in March after writing a Facebook message criticizing Christina Fallin, the 27-year-old (which is plenty OLD enough to be going through a couple of divorces and hurt Native American children) musician and daughter of Oklahoma governor Mary Fallin, after Fallin posted a photo of herself in a Native American-style headdress. Scurlock called the image "disgusting," adding, "A headdress is a symbol of respect which is earned."
(Kliph's assertion is the absolute truth!)
Coyne, meanwhile, is a friend of Fallin's. After the headdress incident, he wrote a message of support for Fallin online with images of friends and a dog wearing Native American headdresses.
(By "support" you mean he mocked offended Native Americans, but please go on.)
Fallin apologized for posting her headdress photo, but doubled down when her band, Pink Pony, played at Oklahoma's Norman Music Festival. ("I heard Pink Pony was wearing full regalia tonight," the band posted on Facebook.) They didn't, but the performance was later criticized by organizers as racist and discriminatory; the band allegedly (meaning the racists, say they aren't "mocking a minority group at all" and they found other racists that happen to be Native to excuse their behavior.--read more about that phenomenon here: http://m.huffpost.com/ca/entry/3795232
By the way, using the term "allegedly" is also justifying their racism. It is a mainstream abuse to deny that racism and prejudice exists. This is an obvious case of aggression and racism to plenty of Native and non-Native Americans. So take your "allegedly" and put it in a dark hole and keep it there, because it's a foul systematic denial of legitamate issues Natives endure!"
mocked Native American dancing and flipped off protesters (Fallin apologized and the governor spoke out against the performance).
In this exclusive interview, Coyne speaks out extensively about Scurlock's accusations, calling the drummer a "compulsive pathological liar" and stresses the Fallin incident wasn't the only reason Scurlock was fired. Coyne also apologized for offending Native Americans. "That was never our intention, (of course not you poor elite dears-smh) and I realize now that it goes deeply to the heart of some (you mean all the Natives that aren't sell-outs or racists themselves) Native Americans," he says. "And I definitely regret it." (But these empty words are all you have to offer-right Wayne?)
How are you doing and what is your response to Kliph's recent allegations?
I'm great. But I don't know what kind of story you're even going to have, or if there even is one. (Yeah-ok-because it's not like you offended anyone and then axed a guy for telling you how utterly offensive you are to minorities.) The only thing that we would have to say about Kliph leaving is that he just was not very significant to us. And all the things he's saying about the reason he was fired, it's all just made-up lies. (Except it's not. He only came out about it, because when Natives heard about what he had done-they couldn't help but honor him publicly for standing up for us. When asked for the story, he actually refused to lie about it and everyone reading his statement can see how much it pained him that you acted like a foul slug. I watched the story unfold.) He knows we struggled with him for years and it didn't occur to us that it seemed that significant. I don't even use the word "fired." He just doesn't play drums with us anymore – that's the way I'd put it. (Oooooooookkkkkk-whatever dude)
I don't like having any hate go anywhere.(um-you didn't have any issues about the hate when it was directed at Native Americans, and you participated-so you are lying there. Guess we still don't count in your mind.) I absolutely loved Kliph, but he had a lot of problems with being immature and he would just hate everything.(how many times are you going to say hate?-just wondering.) Anybody that wants to look at what he does with his Twitter, he usually is hating people. (So because I support Native Americans by speaking out against racism-am I hating people?) And I never thought about it very much. It was only brought to my attention because I'm friends with Christina. (Oh, so Fallin couldn't do anything like influence someone to make Native Americans shut up. Because let's face it her mom, Gov. Mary Fallin, has done all she could do on her end to avoid Native Americans. Christina Fallin wanted to get revenge on people she knew she could get fired for speaking out about what she did? Is that right?) I didn't vote for her mother, but I'm still friends with her,(but you hang out at the MANSION and being BFFs with a screw-turning political family has it's advantages?) and he's an asshole bully who thinks he can just call someone a "cunt" on Twitter and on Facebook and think he's changing the world. (Standing up against racism can change the world. Especially, when the racism is against Native Americans, because most people think we don't even exist and that our racism never did. It should be done everyday. I allow I don't want other people cursed a particular way or threatened and I don't support it. But please explain how you helped your friend of 12 years redirect his passion positively.) And I'm like, "Hey dude, that's our friend. Why are you doing that? Why are you just being a typical cowardly Internet hater?" (Ok, it's not cowardly to stand up against people in power. It's the exact opposite. I am willing to talk to people face to face and most of them don't have the guts-like the Fallins who let their receptionist deal with me when I call. They never want to speak with me personally. That's ok, you can call that cowardly internet hater if you want, but like everything you have said so far...)
What has the last week been like for you?
It's not hard for me. I just think people are confused. (Not confused at all about what you did. Not a bit.) The Flaming Lips folks are not used to hate, you know? (Kliph only directed his commentary at you, but who else have you threatened to fire unless they go along with you?-just sayin. By the way, people generally don't like personalities that are racists against minorities. You might try getting a better set of pals than the Fallins who engage in hateful behavior against minorities) I've been pretty used to it. The minute we started working with Kesha orMiley Cyrus, we got a lot of hate. But these people never really had that, and they're like, "Oh my God, what's happening?" (Yeah, maybe they died of shock because we are still alive and some of us live where there is internet.) and I'm like, "I know, don't worry about it." (Why not worry about it Wayne? I think you should be very worried when you act the way that you have and all you can do is say sorry. You could do something significant to make amends by apologizing to Kliph Scurlock, writing letters, and speaking out against Native racism as someone who is coming to terms with being racist against Indigenous People. That never occurred to you because you are too busy running scared to get away from what you consider a PR nightmare. What this really is, Wayne Coyne, is our nightmare. Natives deal with this stuff everyday. I stare it, and people just like you, in the face when I can, and demand better treatment of Native American people. I don't want to "get it over with". I want America to be a better place for them and ultimately even you. This is our Homeland. We are human. Our children don't need their self-esteem harmed by the racist idiocy that you and the Fallins engage in.) Anyone that can get you with their petty little cowardly Internet death threat, if they think they can interrupt your day, then they will.(Death threats are wrong. I resent that you are lumping what I have said in with that. I resent you thinking we are "out to interupt your day" when you, and people like you, barge into my living room. Racism barges into the lives of Native kids all the time. You get free permission by a corrupted and conditioned society to call Natives-Redsk*ns, Squ*ws, wear significate cultural items, use stereotypical terms against us, make Native children wear chicken-feathers to participate in erroneous school plays, have stadiums full of people doing fake-war chants with "Tommahawk chopping" and force our children to endure a history that is not the truth, but a myth!)

Were your reasons for firing Kliph partly musical, or because of the things he said online?
As time went on, he got to be a lazier and more close-minded musician. We didn't ever really do that much with him. (Naw, you just let him mooch for 12 years? Did I get that right? He didn't play gigs or practice songs with you or nothing?) I mean, we would play shows, but he's not creative. We never wrote songs together. He was a guy that we thought was, I guess, good enough technically that could do stuff in performance. But we know a lot of musicians, so it was not that big of a deal.(I agree Wayne, you all are not that big of a deal-at all.)

Anybody who knows him knows what kind of a hateful person he is. I mean, anybody that looks at his stuff could see that most of the bands that we would play with, he despised them. To their face, he would say, "You guys were great" and then 20 minutes later he'd get online and say, "These people are a bunch of fakes. They suck." That would be almost every band we ever played with. The more that time went on, people would pay more attention to him because of his connection to the Flaming Lips.
The reason that it's connected to the Fallin thing,(really? It's a thing? Being offensive to minorities the way Fallin and Pink Pony have been is not "a thing". Maybe you should just own it, like I do, just say "connected to Fallin being racist." That is more the truth than calling what she did and how she acted -a thing) it's like, "If you're going to be that hateful, you can't be associated with the Flaming Lips." (Really? That sounds great! So is this interview about announcing your departure?) And that was one of a thousand things that he would go on his Twitter or Instagram or the fake ones that he's created. That's what he would do all the time. We would play a show with some bands and the next day, he would say how stupid they are and how much they suck. But after the Christina thing(I'd love to ask Rolling Stone if you stuttered over saying "thing".), people brought it to my attention, and it's like, "Dude, he says bad shit about all of our friends." (Well there wasn't anything good to say about Fallin and Pink Pony, now was there? Honestly, you are just going to keep repeating nonsense the whole interview. Kliph Scurlock acted better than you did about blatant racism. You and Fallin's other pals are all doing the same thing, unsurprisingly, denying everything rather than owning up to what you did. You keep the definition of denial ever more relevant. Try responsibility Wayne, that's a better word to keep relevant. It's a much harder thing to do, which is why lazy people like you and the Fallins don't make efforts to be responsible for all the pain and hurt you have inflicted. It's why empty words are all you will ever show. I would love to be proven wrong by looking back in five years and saying: Wayne Coyne majorly made mistakes, but look how he worked to improve himself and encouraged others to improve themselves. He even got other celebrities and people he knew to encourage the end of Native Mascotry and to fight prejudice and racism against Native Americans.
Does anyone believe that will happen? Does anyone believe Kliph Scurlock is a "pathological liar"? Well I don't and judging by what I've read, neither does anyone else.)
When the Seatle Seahawks won the latest Super Bowl, they had a ton of Native American fans. They gained a few more when their running back Marshawn Lynch had an American Indian hand drum given to him by a fan.

It was a wonderful story that played hugely in Indian Country. The NFL Seattle Seahawks have become a bright spot of acceptance for Native Americans again this week. Richard Sherman, another champion shared his thoughts about the NFL Washington [Redacted].
Sherman said something very similar to what many of us have been saying, that racism is alive and hugely ignored. He made remarks that people don't want to talk about it and acknowledge it. I agree publications and articles always "allege" that it happened.
He believes as I do that we have to have this tough conversation and work to "snuff it out". Yes, Richard Sherman is right! He is right that the NFL has bottom-line ethics of money over humanity. The NFL hasn't cared for nearly a decade to address the fact that the racism they support (by Native Mascotry) is harmful to children. Yes, next year sometime will mark 10 years since the APA resolved that "American Indian mascots" are harmful to Native American children. Does anyone honestly think that if our Native children were part of the majority that this would still be the situation? Of course they don't, which just proves that the majority of American sympathy doesn't include Native children. That is racism. That is discrimination.
Many parents in society would be up in arms if it were their children's self-esteem on the line, just like the many Native parents and Native leaders. I think if it were any other larger percentage of the Americans population that this would have changed long ago. My heart feels raw by how few Americans have cared. So, when I hear that Richard Sherman spoke out for Native kids, and called attention to their injustice-I cried. I was so moved and grateful to him.(something I am to all the wonderful non-Native support that has slowly been building) So few league players have come forward! Usually, when they do they retract most of what they said soon after. I honestly felt floored by what he had done. Some of our allies, like Eugene Hung @iaurmelloneug have been dropping some not-so-sutble hints on Twitter under #NFLdraft. They have also been directing commentary about how important it is to abolish Native Mascotry to NFL draftees all week! I can't say as to whether that played into Richard Sherman coming forward unexpectedly and talking about the NFL-tough love style. I would like to think so. Especially, since Eugene and others worked so hard!
People have been asking more heavily for NFL-player support to abolish the Washington team mascot since the NBA commissioner Adam Silver banned Donald Sterling (owner of the LA Clippers) for life and witnessing the remarkable actions of the NBA-players. A flood of articles, talk radio, and TV have been drawing the comparison between NBA vs NFL. I feel as if we have all been waiting for a NFL-player to come forward.
What matters to me right now, and so many other people at EONM (Eradicating Offensive Native Mascotry) is that Richard Sheman gets recognition for coming forward. That he feels supported in his decision. Our hope is that other players will come forward and join in. We need their support. We need the support of the whole nation right now. So please let's show him on Twitter @RSherman_25 how grateful we are for such a well spoken declaration of support for Native Americans!
Wado Richard Sherman! (thank you in Cherokee)!
Shout me some Tylenol-lol
