#CancelColbert Collateral Damage To EONM (Eradicating Offensive Native Mascotry)
It is tempting to move off of one subject and onto another without wanting to go back over it again. Rehashing is something I have come to live with, but not enjoy. I feel it is my duty to educate others, no matter how many times, within reason. It is a way to combat the prolific misinformation about Native Americans that is paraded to the general public. So, it was with a heavy heart I clicked on the link to a Huffington Post article written by Arun Gupta Bitcoin Activism: How Michelle Malkin and Suey Park Found Common Cause In Hashtag Movements http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/5169731
Even when Jackie thanked Mr. Gupta for including our Native Voices in his work. Also, for reading what Native Americans had to say-she was attacked.
This screen capture was part of a hushed up and later banned account-@HipPocketSoul-for calling on a boycott of Mountain Dew due to Nascar driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. announcing his support of Dan Snyder.
Before I even read it, I knew a few things. Michelle Malkin supported the internment of Japanese-Americans in World War II. By supported I mean she wrote an infamous book that called the internment necessary. Being a Cherokee-Creek woman, I have issues with anyone who thinks rounding up people and forcibly transporting them "for the greater good" is okay. Yeah, it's not okay and never was. It's actually disgusting and inexcusable. Michelle Malkin can willingly go back in a time machine. Malkin can kiss FDR on the way to the camps if she wants. He would probably like that since his wife, Elanor Roosevelt, personally thought it was a crummy thing he did on his watch-she was right. Malkin has betrayed Asian-Americans. I know that many feel disparaged by her actions.
The other thing I knew, before I read it, was that this article was going to bring out the Suey-trolls (people on twitter who attack anyone that critizes Suey Park or anyone who reveal opinions about how they feel she has acted badly). Make no mistake, Suey Park has acted unapologetically wrong towards Native Americans. She sidelined their #Not4Sale movement against "Washington [Redacted] Original Americans Foundation" to promote her own agenda. Suey-trolls go about unchecked and aggressively slam down any Native opinion about #CancelColbert that doesn't align with supporting it over #Not4Sale. They use #NotYourMascot as a shield to deflect criticism about #CancelColbert sidelining #Not4Sale. Many Natives believe Suey-trolls start new Twitter accounts designed to attack any #CancelColbert dissent. They make repetitive accusations that appear script-like.
Actually, as so many articles have pointed out- EONM trended #NotYourMascot. That fact is important because it is a Native-led movement not a Suey Park-led movement.
Also, defamation of Jacqueline Keeler for trying to call back attention to #Not4Sale is construed as an attack on Suey Park.
Of course this is what happened, as I knew it would. Despite the voices of Native Americans on twitter that agreed with Jacqueline Keeler and myself about #CancelColbert sidelining their movement.
I don't mind standing up for them and how they feel about #CancelColbert or Suey Park or anyone. That is something I'm happy to do! No matter how crazy the Suey-troll defamation and demonization of us personally might get. Natives, and Native leaders in particular, have been told how to think about things for generations and by multiple groups. Anyone attacking Native American leaders in the name of being "an ally" against racism or abuse of Natives is just perpetuating colonial tactics of getting Natives to do as they are told.
Mr. Gupta also had to defended his work on twitter for countless hours, as does anyone that critizes Suey Park. Some of the statements I see Suey-trolls flinging are at very level-headed and fair journalists or activists are so baseless, demeaning, and abusive.
Screen capture of a good friend who definitely noticed the Suey-troll trend of attacking Native activists.
It is a cultish pattern that many Suey Park followers engage in. It has been written about before and is widely known to occur. Don't wait for an apology from Suey Park herself.
Michelle Malkin probably knew that when she attached herself to #CancelColbert. I want to analyze why she would want to support #CancelColbert and Suey Park, which is something that Mr. Gupta's illuminating piece was focused around. I want to come at that from a different direction; a Native American activist one.
Before I get to that, there is something to be said about the power of Twitter and hashtag activism being like a bitcoin. I'm not very familiar with bitcoin, but I did watch an AJ Stream piece on digital currency being used on Indian Reservations. Might I add that, AJ Stream has always been very good about checking the pulse of Indian Country.
Anyway, if Twitter activism is like a currency I can deduce it has capital. A Twitter hashtag's activism-capital if you will, lies in three things:
*the value to educate.
*the hashtag's ability to bring about awareness that leads to the changes the hashtag seeks.
*whether it's base extends outside of twitter.
These are all important to whether what is driving a hashtag can produce the desired effect of changing something for the betterment of the people whose causes inspired the action in the first place. By comparing #CancelColbert with #Not4Sale you can see what I mean.
#CancelColbert was a reactionary hashtag meant to address casual racism (aka micro-aggression) but there was no base of operations outside of Suey Park. There was no real call to actually cancel Colbert Report as the hashtag claims to want to achieve. The base outside of twitter, in this case Suey Park, is called on to educate the general public. I will leave it to you to weigh whether that has been accomplished or not.
#Not4Sale was/is meant to be a way for Native Americans to stand up to Dan Snyder. It's a way for Natives to tell him we can't be bought and silenced by his blood money or faux-charity. The base outside of Twitter is EONM and a larger, older 40 year Native movement to end Native-racism. When given the opportunity EONM activists educate the general public about how wrong Native Mascotry is in any medium. The change #Not4Sale is wanting is a real goal of ending the exclusion of Native American voices. Secondly, to end Natives being silenced by billionaires, like Dan Snyder, who are attempting to "bribe support"-according to Suzan Harjo. #Not4Sale is on-going.
I can see how someone can compare Twitter activists to Bitcoins, after all, I just did. Mr. Gupta also pointed out Michelle Malkin's involvement in #CancelColbert. Her involvement made me notice something I hadn't really considered before as playing a role in anything EONM does.
Some EONM members have come in contact with big name Native Mascotry lovers on twitter. Some of the Mascotry-lovers are unaware of how real Natives feel and some of them blatantly refuse to listen to Native Americans.
This is part of a Twitter convo between Jeffrey Wright and five members of the EONM Executive Committee. He was engaging with Native Americans.
I have heard that a mascot change would happen if Washihgton team star RGIII were to come out and back it. Sadly, he believes in Native-racism and has called Native Americans the equivalent of "politically correct tyrants". Obviously, I take great offense to that description of my motivation for wanting the end of Native Mascotry.
Enter Michelle Malkin into the all star crop up of big names that Dan Snyder can call friend.
Here is Michelle Malkin referring to Natives as "PC Cheiftains"
Here is Malkin using clear Native-racism language in repeated use of "whoops and hollers" (Anti-Natives really like to use this type of stereotypical degrading Nativism to belittle). This Native man also had an active duty son-something Malkin also belittles.
Just yesterday, Malkin riding high on her score of collateral damage to EONM and Native Americans by backing #CancelColbert, retweeted Anti-Native RGIII.
As I just illustrated, Dan Snyder has some pretty big name friends out and about doing his dirty work for him. They are engaging in Native-racism. They are attacking Native hashtag movements like #Not4Sale by using what influence they have to silence them, as Malkin clearly did.
It must have been a big win for her, attacking people wearing liberal labels and attacking Native Americans. Before anyone brushs me off by labeling me with colonial-government political party labeling, they should know I don't belong to one. They should know I think they are Jacksonian and harm people by causing division. They should know the only "labels" I allow getting stuck on me are Momma and Cherokee Nation citizen.
One final thought, I can't prove Dan Snyder has been secretly calling up big name Native Mascotry fans. I will say he likes secret meetings and secret tours. In fact, he is so shady he avoids most all public maneuvering. Maybe his little crowd of PR boys, all of them members of the slime-ball club in my book, told him not to speak in public. Does he secretly creep around on Twitter? I know that pretty much daily EONM members mention tweet @Redsk*ns. How far up the chain does that go? It is not too far a leap to make that there could be a secret log where he stores lists of all his opponents on social media. He could highlight the "ring-leaders" like Jaqueline Keeler. He could email out that list of names to his friends so they can "look out" for ways to subvert them on social media. I am talking about the man that started OAF! Someone so evil to come up with such a putrid faux-charity is capable of anything.
After all, some of these same big name Native Mascotry supporters cozy up outside of Twitter.
